William Hancock is a private client, tax and trusts lawyer. He advises on estate planning and inheritance, domicile and residence, gifts and endowments, the custody and protection of tangible things: collections, archives, heritage property.

William’s work for individuals and families often involves dealing with cross border issues. This includes general trust, succession and charity law advice, often involving the consideration of personal and matrimonial regimes, the analysis of structures, the drafting of legal documents, the implementation of pre-arrival UK tax planning. His work also encompasses advising UK and foreign trustees, foundations and private offices.

William represents charities, principally in the arts and educational sectors.

He has contributed articles on tax, trust and heritage matters including the Financial Times, PLC, STEP Journal, and Spears magazine. A recent article published by Arts Professional: A Paradox for George’s Marbles – Can a solution be found for the Elgin/Parthenon marbles?

William joined Sinclair Gibson as a consultant in February 2024 having formerly been a partner at two other London law firms known for their private client work

William read law at Southampton University (LLB) and at Hertford College, Oxford (BCL)
