Our family team at Sinclair Gibson is supporting Family Mediation Week (17 to 21 January 2022) to raise awareness of mediation and how it can help separating families. It is an opportunity to learn more about Family Mediation, in which an independent, professionally-trained mediator helps you work out arrangements for your children and/or your finances following separation.
Family mediation is an ever-growing popular alternative for resolving arrangements post separation. It allows separating couples to explore and agree what works for them and their unique circumstances, whilst avoiding the court process which can be costly, stressful and is often delayed. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process.
Mediation assists separating families to discuss the issues important to them in a confidential and safe space and ultimately reach important decisions together for their future. Mediators are impartial and will remain neutral while helping clients identify the issues to be resolved, helping clients listen to one another and discuss the options available. Clients can discuss a whole range of issues in mediation, from where they will each live in the immediate term, how and when they wish to tell their children about the breakdown of their relationship, to what they should do about complex finances and arrangements for the children. Mediation can be used at any stage, even if court proceedings are underway. It is never too later to consider mediation as a way of resolving issues.
Xanthy Papageorgiou, Associate in our Family Team, is a Resolution trained mediator registered with the Family Mediation Council and is offering mediation to separating couples both in relation to finances and children matters. If you would like to discuss using mediation for your family, please contact Xanthy on 020 7539 4727 or by email at xanthy.papageorgiou@sinclairgibson.com.
